Trying Le Gourmand on a warm summer evening in Jávea was a dining experience I won’t soon forget. Nestled at the foot of Montgó, this elegant French restaurant blends timeless tradition with relaxed Mediterranean charm.
We were warmly welcomed by the entire team, and Benjamin Bouvard, the owner, kindly came over to chat and keep good company.
Raised in Paris, he shared his experience working in the industry, but also about how he had spent many holidays in Jávea growing up, eventually making the move here to bring his vision to life. Today, Le Gourmand stands as one of the area’s most iconic spots for French cuisine, known for its intimate atmosphere and refined approach to dining.
We started the evening with a glass of crisp cava and some white wine, the perfect refreshment for the warm night. Our starters included a tray of fresh mussels served in a buttery parsley sauce:simple, delicious, and proof that when the ingredients are this good, you don’t need much else.
Naturally, we couldn’t resist trying the foie gras. There were two types: a house-made mi-cuit and a whole duck liver version, beautifully caramelised. Both came with spiced notes of cinnamon, nutmeg, and a surprising but lovely touch: gingerbread, served alongside crisps and bread. It was a strong start and a real showcase of classic French flair.
For the main course, I chose the duck magret. Thick cut, juicy, and perfectly cooked medium rare, it was paired with a ginger-orange sauce, cheesy mashed potatoes, and vegetables. Rich in flavour but still balanced and not too heavy, it was a comforting and satisfying dish that truly showed off the kitchen’s skill with traditional French dishes.
And of course, no French meal would be complete without dessert. We ended the night with a classic Crêpe Suzette: light, citrusy, and just the right amount of sweet. It was the perfect finale to an already unforgettable evening.
Between the stunning views, the garden terrace setting, and the thoughtful hospitality, Le Gourmand was a delightful, elevated yet homey an experience. Especially now in the summer, it’s the perfect place to enjoy a long dinner under the stars with great food and even better company.
Huge thanks to Benjamin and his team for such a memorable experience.
