is celebrating another milestone in its ongoing growth: the opening of a brand-new building for upper Primary and Year 7 students. This third building completes the Primary phase and offers new opportunities for learning, development, and community life.
A Space Designed for Learning and Belonging
The building has been carefully designed to reflect XIC’s vision of providing an environment where children feel valued and inspired. As well as classrooms for Years 5, 6 and 7, the new facility includes four specialist Spanish rooms, ensuring language learning remains a core part of the curriculum. A co-working and breakout area has also been created to support small group work and personalised learning. Here, pupils can receive tailored academic support and enjoy a collaborative style of study that encourages independence and self-confidence.
Active Spaces to Grow and Play
Alongside the new building, students now have access to an additional sports court. Physical education and recreation are an important part of life at XIC, helping to balance academics with health and wellbeing. Outdoor time is valued as much as classroom learning, reinforcing the school’s belief that education should develop the whole child in mind, body and character.
Staying True to the XIC Philosophy
While the new building expands capacity, XIC remains committed to its founding principles of small class sizes, personalised attention, and a nurturing atmosphere. Headmaster Richard Wijeratne has always emphasised that “a school is not built on facilities, it is built on people.” The new building is another step in creating the right environment, but it is the school’s teachers, values, and culture of self-respect that truly set it apart.
XIC’s mission is to help every child become “better today than yesterday,” a philosophy woven into daily school life. By combining academic rigour with character development, students leave not only with strong qualifications but also with resilience, confidence and integrity.
The new facility is more than bricks and mortar. It is an investment in children’s futures and in the growing community that makes XIC so unique.
