When Inditex the Spanish fashion conglomerate designers behind Massimo Dutti and Zara opened its doors in Spain 2008,
arrived, and…
‘High End Fashion Met With Contemporary Art.’
With four in Madrid, five in Barcelona and one in Valencia, Uterque has doubled the stores in Spain since their launch in 2008. Each store offers fashion-led accessories for men and women including handbags, footwear, belts, sunglasses and jewellery. Retail prices range from an affordable €20 (£15) to €200 (£159) for handbags. Uterque have even bigger dreams – an expected 30 stores are planned across Spain, Portugal and Greece.
The Spanish retail group came up with the concept after accessories at its fashion chains – which include Zara, Massimo Dutti, Bershka and Pull and Bear – showed a continued and strong growth.
Uterque has even added a touch of ‘Old English‘ to the mix with their design concept. The store design is inspired by old English libraries, featuring wooden furniture, black flooring and fixtures, full-length mirrors and wooden paneling – using environmentally friendly materials. So they are making more than a fashion statement, it’s a conscious one too. Always great to see this level of thought in the fashion industry.
Üterque has been eight strong, successful years in the making. Its 2008 launch came at an interesting time given that retail sales in Spain had slowed prompting a mass of speculation that the country was in recession. In fact, in May 2008, Spain’s retail sales were down 5.3% on the previous year.
With new summer designs, featuring pretty off the shoulder blouses in pale pinks and white, Üterque attracts the Zara lovers. With their classic stitched leather jackets, handbags and boots, Üterque shows up as Massimo Dutti with a twist.
