In a remarkable achievement celebrated at the Michelin Gala 2024 in Barcelona, Chef Ferdinando Bernardi earned Casa Bernardi’s inaugural Michelin star, nestled in Pedramala within the Alicante municipality of Benissa. Established in December 2021, this rustic haven amidst nature’s embrace, adorned with orchards and sea views, harmonizes Italian traditions and flavors in the heart of the Mediterranean.
“This Michelin star validates the passionate, daring, and diligent effort we’ve poured into our craft,” expressed Ferdinando Bernardi. “It’s gratifying to elevate Italian haute cuisine on the Spanish culinary map, potentially invigorating both local residents and tourists alike.”
Bernardi acknowledges this honor as a culmination of familial support, team dedication, and invaluable partnerships with brands such as Tescoma, Carmencita, Garda, and Cerveza Turia (Grupo Damm). Gratitude extends to the Caravaca Perles family, property owners, builders, local suppliers like the Calp Fishermen’s Guild, and collaborative institutions such as the Benissa Town Hall, Alicante Chamber of Commerce, Alicante Provincial Council, and the Valencian Government, alongside educational institutions like Gasma-CEU.
Casa Bernardi’s culinary journey unfolds through three tasting menus: Terra, celebrating vegetarian delights at €110; Pasta Lovers at €120; and A Modo Mio at €130, showcasing signature Italian dishes complemented by locally sourced ingredients while honoring Italian produce. The wine list flaunts international references with a strong focus on Italy, alongside selections from Valencian winemakers.
A recent addition is Casa Bernardi Bakery, offering artisanal bread made by Nicolas Sequeira using organic stone-ground flours from Harinas Entrepiedras, allowing patrons to relish the same bread served in the restaurant.
Since its inception, Ferdinando has been supported by a steadfast team comprising Valentina Visnevschi as head of service, Heguer Castellanos as sommelier, Niccoló Zorloni as sous-chef, Christopher de Ascensao as pastry chef, and Nicolás Sequeira as head baker.
The Michelin Guide 2024 opinionates, “A delightful spot in Marina Alta! This restaurant stands out as a place where diners feel truly special. Led by the exceptionally talented chef Ferdinando Bernardi, it defines itself as a place where Italianità (true Italian hospitality) meets the environment.”
Hailing from Rimini, Italy, Ferdinando’s culinary journey began in his father’s restaurant, La Tramontana. His professional path expanded across various international ventures in Thailand, London, Lyon, Chicago, and Los Angeles before establishing himself in Spain. His prior tenure at Orobianco in Calpe garnered a Michelin star in 2019, making it Spain’s sole Michelin-starred Italian restaurant.
Casa Bernardi continues to captivate discerning palates, earning accolades and enriching Spain’s gastronomic tapestry under the culinary vision of Ferdinando Bernardi.
