A touch of home baking at L’interdit

A must have visit in Altea is L’interdit, a restaurant well known for its outstanding quality and affordable prices. Managed by Claudia Pérez Copelo, her passion for home baking has led to the success of the restaurant.

Claudia has been living in Spain for 15 years and decided to open her business in February 2013. Initially focusing in patisserie, since baking always has been Claudia’s hobby.

“We started as a tea shop, with delicious cakes and then we continued to expand. Our aim was always to home bake everything. All our pastry is made by us at our own premises.”

Born in Argentina but with Spanish, Italian and French background Claudia merges all these cultures into her dishes. One of her star products is the ‘focaccia’ which is a kind of bread similar to pizza but stuffed with Brie cheese, tomato or roast beef among other variety of products.

Other delicious house specialities are the quiches, pastries filled with cheese, bacon and leek, corresponding to the French roots of the owner. They also serve a range of nine ‘tapas’ that include salmon, homemade meatballs and Argentinian ’empanadas’ filled with chicken or beef. All of this is included in a €11.90 menu that comprises of three courses and a drink.

One thing that shouldn’t be missed is breakfast at L ‘Interdit. “From cereal, yogurt, to croissants and toasts, there is absolutely nothing artificial in our food,” Claudia explains.

Crepes are the ultimate success at L’Interdit. Whether it’s savoury ones with smoked salmon or the sweet ones filled with banana, chocolate and nuts, you’ll enjoy tucking in.

They are currently offering a range of gluten free bread, lactose free products as well as vegetarian options. “We started this when our customers suggested that we should offer savoury products and healthy snacks,” says Claudia. Taking this on board they developed the menu to suit all customers.

As the restaurant goes from strength to strength, Claudia hopes to encourage more through the door whilst encouraging regular customers to relish more than just their delicious cakes.
