With spring in full swing, thousands and thousands of flowers will fill, with their colours and delicate fragrance, all the central squares and streets in the town of Girona, in Catalonia, for the 2018 edition of Temps de Flors.
From May 12th and til the 20th, Girona becomes a huge canvas for artistic expression, for the festival of Temps de Flors (Time of Flowers in Catalan), and the floral compositions nicely compliment the wonderful architectural and historical heritage of the city.
Since it was first held in 1954, the exhibition has moved around some of the city’s best-known landmarks. In 1993, Girona, Temps de Flors became an official route that enables visitors to enter courtyards and gardens of dwellings and buildings of great cultural interest that are not open to the general public during the rest of the year.
Apart from the artistic displays, the festival also includes many activities with something for everyone: photography and film competitions; the A Cappella music festival; special gastronomic offerings in many of the city’s restaurants, where flowers are included among the ingredients; participation in the putting together of flower displays.
Gastroflowers and Flowers of the Night
From 12 to 20 May 2018, 46 restaurants in Girona, from cafes to tapas bars and gourmet venues, present the initiative #Gastroflors, menus in which the flowers are an ingredient of the dishes. There will be a multitude of creative gastronomic proposals to taste during these days. You can find more information on the dedicated website of Girona Hostaleria including the list of all venues with their address. Also, during the evenings and nights of the festival, 30 bars will offer snacks, cocktails, tapas, cooked dishes, tisanes, sweets, desserts, menus and others specialties elaborated with a common denominator: the flowers. This initiative, which this year reaches the sixth edition, aims to complement the gastronomic offer and nightlife for visitors to the floral festival.
