Tide the Knot: Say ‘I Do’ at L’Olleta

Pepe Navarro Barranquí and Pepa Bañuls built their life on the shores of Altea, Spain, opening Chiringuito EL CRANC in the early ‘90s. By 2006, they had set their sights on something more: a seaside restaurant where locals and travelers alike could linger over plates of monkfish rice and grilled dentex, sipping crisp white wine with the Mediterranean rolling in the background. That vision became Restaurante L’Olleta Club del Mar.

Today, their children, Pepa and Vicente, carry on the tradition. They’ve infused the space with their own touch, ensuring that the waves aren’t the only thing drawing people in – it’s also the impeccable service, the fresh-off-the-boat seafood, and the undeniable romance in the air.

It was that same air that first made Ana and Luis dream about hosting their wedding at L’Olleta. One evening, over a long dinner on the terrace, Ana looked out at the horizon and whispered, “This is it.” Luis agreed. A few months later, they were saying their vows on the amphitheater steps, the sea stretching endlessly behind them.

There’s something cinematic about a wedding at L’Olleta. Maybe it’s the way the light hits the water at sunset or the intimacy of the venue, where each space feels both exclusive and expansive. Couples can exchange vows in the lush garden with the sound of the tide as their soundtrack, then move into the glazed banquet hall, where the candlelit tables reflect in the floor-to-ceiling windows. For smaller receptions, there’s the chill-out terrace, a relaxed, elegant space where guests can sip cocktails under the stars.

And then there’s the food

Chef César Marquiegui crafts menus tailored to each couple, blending bold Mediterranean flavors with modern finesse. Drawing inspiration from the sea and the vibrant landscapes of Altea, Chef Marquiegui crafts dishes that celebrate the richness of Mediterranean cuisine.

Think: just-caught seafood, vibrant seasonal produce, and rich, satisfying flavors that linger long after the last bite. From tender monkfish rice to succulent grilled dentex, each plate is a testament to his commitment to fresh, locally sourced ingredients and creating memorable dining experiences.

A Venue for Unforgettable Weddings

Beyond its reputation as a culinary destination, L’Olleta serves as an idyllic setting for weddings and special celebrations. Perched on elevated terraces overlooking the serene beach and the island of L’Olla, the venue offers breathtaking views of the Mediterranean, providing a romantic backdrop for any event.

Couples can choose from a variety of spaces to host their ceremony and reception:

  • Gardens and Terrace: Ideal for ceremonies, these areas offer panoramic sea views, immersing guests in the natural beauty of Altea.

Amphitheater and Chill-Out Area: An outdoor space perfect for post-ceremony celebrations, featuring live music and a relaxed atmosphere.

For weddings exceeding 100 guests, L’Olleta offers exclusive use of the venue, ensuring privacy and personalized service. The in-house culinary team collaborates with couples to design customized menus that reflect their tastes and dietary preferences, emphasizing Mediterranean flavors and fresh, local ingredients.

Planning Your Event

For couples who want the venue all to themselves, L’Olleta offers full buyouts, ensuring a truly private celebration. “It’s like having your own piece of the Mediterranean,” one bride recently said. And she wasn’t wrong.

To book a visit or inquire about planning an event, the team at L’Olleta is available Monday through Friday. For more information visit their website. But fair warning – once you see the view, you may not want to get married anywhere else.
