Who said that the beach is only for summer? In Spain, one can choose the warm waters of Menorca, in autumn. The Canary sands, whether black or golden, in winter. And the Mediterranean coast offers the perfect holiday by the sea in early spring. From A Coruña to Tenerife, Spain has a lot of enclaves to keep away beach nostalgia all year round. If planning a vacation in January, then Los Guíos in Tenerife is the perfect spot.
Los Guíos beach, next to the cliffs of Los Gigantes, west of Tenerife, is the best destination for the beginning of the year. Los Guíos is a 70 metre long black sand beach, surrounded by stunning nature but with comfortable parking areas in vicinity, as well as other attractions, like the only Canarian chef with a Michelin star, Juan Carlos Padrón, about one kilometer away.
Los Gigantes are 5-7 million years old cliffs, 400-600 meters tall, and they are often compared to White Cliffs of Dover in the U.K. and Cliffs of Moher in Ireland. Due to their height, they serve as a natural protection from trade winds and contribute to making this area one of the warmest on the island. Thus, despite common misconception, local temperature is usually a couple degrees higher than in the popular resort areas of Costa Adeje and Las Americas.
Regarding the weather, the team of Tenerife Magazine says: “The town of Los Gigantes is located on the stunning south-west coast of the island which is bathed in beautiful sunshine almost all year round. Unlike other parts of the island where the weather can be a little less predictable, you will almost certainly find blue skies and the spring-like temperatures that Tenerife is world famous for. Even during winter months, you can still enjoy strolling around during the day in shorts and t-shirt and sunny days at the beach or by the pool.”
