Sevilla’s Feria 2023: Record Turnout and Extreme Temperatures

Last week saw the annual Feria of Sevilla, one of the most important events in the city’s cultural calendar. The Feria is a week-long festival that celebrates the region’s culture, music and gastronomy and attracts visitors from all over Spain and the world.

On Tuesday, April 23, the Feria officially began with a parade featuring flamenco dancers, horse-drawn carriages and colourful costumes.

Throughout the week, a record number of visitors enjoyed a range of cultural activities, including bullfights, flamenco shows and live musical performances. The main attraction of the Feria is the casetas, small tents or stalls where locals and visitors gather to eat, drink and dance.

At this year’s Feria, there were more than 1,000 casetas decorated in bright colours and offering a variety of traditional dishes and drinks such as sherry, fino and manzanilla. Visitors could sample local specialities such as pescaíto frito (fried fish) and tortilla de camarones (shrimp omelette).

The feria also included a fair with rides and attractions for children and adults alike. The fairground was especially popular at night when the lights and music created a magical atmosphere.

Despite the extreme weather conditions of the last week – 39° was measured in the last days – the Feria could take place as planned and offered visitors a lively and exciting cultural experience with flamenco music, traditional costumes and delicious food.

The festivities concluded on Saturday, April 29, with a spectacular fireworks display that lit up the sky over the city. The event was a great success and visitors left Sevilla with the memory of a lively and colourful celebration of Andalusian culture.

If you missed this year’s Feria, be sure to save the date for the next events, which will take place between Sunday, April 14, 2024, and Saturday, April 20, 2024.
