Restaurante Masena, Javea: Where the children eat well too!

Restaurante Masena in Javea is part of the Bello Horizonte/Masena/Vall de Cavall group of businesses, owned and administered with care by the De Roij Bastijns Family, who originate from Belgium. Like many other businesses in Spain, the family has used the time of lockdown due to the Covid-19 outbreak positively, and they have made a number of changes to their business model.

The group consists of Bello Horizonte Decoracion, as well as two restaurants, Masena and Vall de Cavall, and the Vall de Cavall Stables. Masena chef Hamid Megrini has been working on new dishes for the menu, and there have been changes to the Masena and Vall de Cavall websites. They are informative and user friendly, with lots of interesting content to browse as you decide what you are going to eat!

One thing that really stands out about the menu is the children’s section. No beefburgers or chicken nuggets and chips here – your children can eat as well as you do, with three options chosen with children in mind. There’s classic spaghetti Bolognese, which even the fussiest kids seem happy to eat, chicken breast, and a special tender sirloin, taken from young calfs, served with a selection of healthy vegetables. Portion size is generous for healthy young appetites too.

The team at Masena are passionate about food, and they want to share that passion with everyone who is fortunate enough to dine with them, from the youngest upwards. Encouraging children to be more adventurous in their food choices can only be good for them, and make them feel more grown up, and it’s a healthy change from fast food, as well as being a complete dining experience, with all the sensations the adults expect, such as aroma and presentation, to build that sense of anticipation.

Speaking of anticipation, the adult menu will get your mouth watering by just reading it! Start off with goat cheese and quince salad with a honey vinaigrette, mussels in a creamy leek sauce, classic ham croquettes, or a more adventurous strawberry gazpacho. Yes, you read that right!

There are a number of fish and meat main courses, as you would expect in any Spanish restaurant, as well as three special Masena rice dishes featuring chicken, seafood, or even lobster.  Choose from various steaks, lamb ribs, cod loin with roasted peppers, and lots of other traditional and modern Mediterranean style dishes. You can even cook your own meat on a hot stone, if you wish.

If, after all that, you have room for dessert, there’s a hot apple pie made to order for you, cheesecake, tiramisu with amaretto, and even cheese ice cream with a strawberry coulis. That’s very handy if you don’t really do desserts, but fancy something cool and light to finish off your meal.

Dining at a good restaurant is much more than fuelling the body – it’s an enhancement of your day, and it’s great that children can also experience this for themselves. Why not take your children – or somebody else’s, even – along to eat at Restaurante Masena? If your child has any food intolerances, allergies or dislikes, advise at the time of booking, so the team can find an acceptable solution. Contact details below.
