Mediterranean Minimalism Perfected: Carmen House by Carles Faus Studio

A Studio Built on Simplicity and Beauty
Carles Faus Studio is an architecture firm based in Valencia and Dénia, renowned for its refined Mediterranean minimalism. Founded by Carles Faus Borràs, the studio is rooted in the belief that beauty, clarity, and emotional resonance can shape how we live. Every project is a conversation between light, geometry, and the user—blending art, architecture, and function into a unified vision. From concept to completion, the studio collaborates with experts in landscaping, acoustics, and engineering to deliver timeless homes that feel both effortless and intentional.

Carmen House: A Tribute to White and Light
Located in Dénia, Alicante, Carmen House is a 189.65 m² home inspired by the traditional Ibizan casa payesa. The design focuses on simplicity—clean lines, controlled light, and a palette led by white. Set in a suburban environment with little aesthetic context, the home turns inward, drawing attention to its own quiet presence rather than what surrounds it.

Guided by Sunlight, Defined by Volume
The house follows a rectilinear layout, with minimal deviations from the principal axes. Each space is placed in relation to the natural path of light. Entry is via a discreet north-side access, revealing a double-height central nucleus that breaks the monotony of the exterior and anchors the day zone. A wide opening at the core visually links the living area to the pool and, further in the distance, to the historic Dénia Castle.

Blurring Interior and Exterior
This main opening, once opened, dissolves the line between inside and out. It is perfectly mirrored by a porch of equal dimensions, designed to provide shade in summer months and extend the usability of the outdoor area year-round. Meanwhile, the kitchen and dining area enjoy framed views through a secondary opening, which also invites a sliver of the garden indoors—bringing greenery into the heart of the home.

A White Canvas, Rich in Detail
White is more than a theme—it is the material narrative. Parex Group’s Cotegram Cal Liso clads the exterior in smooth white lime, while Topciment’s matte white microcement unifies the flooring and walls, ensuring seamless visual continuity. This material transition reinforces the project’s philosophy: white as the generator of light, shadows faded gently by a calm, bright backdrop.

Premium Finishes, Honest Materials
Inside, the kitchen is fitted with Porcelanosa’s Residence model in matte white, complemented by a central island in Porcelanosa Krion for a sleek, seamless aesthetic. Light throughout the house is sculpted using Arkos Light fixtures, including the Swap, Gap, Puck, and Hubble models. All windows and openings are framed with Cortizo Cor Vision aluminium carpentry, allowing for uninterrupted views while maintaining high thermal efficiency. The pool continues the monochrome palette with Mosaico Piu’s white gresite, adding texture and reflection.

A Signature of Carles Faus Studio
Carmen House encapsulates the essence of Carles Faus Studio: architecture that is minimal yet expressive, restrained yet deeply atmospheric. It is a modern Mediterranean retreat where light shapes experience, and simplicity becomes luxury.
