Introducing Rising Fashion Designer Priscila Welter
“I grew up amongst patterns and scissors”, says Brazilian born Priscila Welter, founder and creative director of Priscila Welter Handbags and More. Hailing from a long line of fashion royalty – her father and grandfather both successful footwear designers, and her grandmother a famous wedding dressmaker and haute couture designer – it seems fashion has always been Priscila’s destiny: “I’ve always known that I would be a designer”, says Priscila, who now lives with her husband and children in Jávea. “I never thought about working for someone else, I always aspired to head my own company. I have what I call ‘entrepreneurial spirit’”.
This spirit has taken her a very long way, as she now sits at the helm of a burgeoning luxury fashion brand. Her collections, a range of accessories – mainly bags, purses and phone cases – honour both Priscila’s Brazilian roots and the culture of her new home in Spain, and proudly encapsulate the motif “Brazilian Design – Made in Spain”. All items are delicately handcrafted to perfection using an exquisite selection of leathers and furs. While all production is carried out in artisan workshops based in Spain and great effort is taken to source locally produced materials. Indeed empowering the local workforce has always been one of Priscila’s main aims.
Design and quality, along with price, are also key cornerstones of the brand according to Priscila: “ The aim was to offer the perfect combination of original, high-quality products at affordable prices.”
Although Priscila often follows her own artistic intuitions she is mainly inspired by three broad styles, which she refers to as “boho, chic and working girl”. Her style mixes the modern and classic, the basic and sophisticated; and her beloved trademark – fringing – features in most collections.
Over the past six years, since its inception in 2010, Priscila Welter Handbags and More has reached astounding heights. Her creations have sold internationally, courtesy of her online boutique, while also featuring in multi-brand boutiques across Spain. And most recently, in May this year, she opened her very first, exclusive Priscila Welter store in Jávea. In addition to this, Priscila and her designs, have collaborated with other brands for global fashion evens, including Fashion Weeks in Madrid, with the Spanish label Esther Noriega, and in New York, with London-based firm Jody Bell.
Yet despite the widespread success, Priscila is already looking to the future: “The idea is to continue opening other stores, Madrid being the next location target. I am also focused on continuing to grow the company by expanding our online sales.”
Burning ambition, raw design talent and “entrepreneurial spirit”, there’s no doubting Priscila is poised for further fashion success. Move over Jávea, get ready Madrid!
