Much more than a mere art gallery, Espacio 14 in Gata de Gorgos is a creative hub where there are no limits on creativity and expression.
Attention all art lovers – come and discover the emerging gallery that captures the essence of the local artists in Gata de Gorgos. Honing in on national and international expansion, the gallery focuses on human impact, culture and its evolution and specialises in abstract art.
Converted into an art Gallery by Luis Puchades, Espacio 14 is a renovated house on the N332. Located in Gata de Gorgos, Alicante, Espacio 14 was renovated from an old house dating from 1900. In construction, the hydraulic tiles, rough stone, exposed mobila wood beams and mobila wood joinery doors were kept to retain the house’s original essence.
The studio opened its doors in March 2020, just before being thwarted by the Covid-19 pandemic. Luckily the studio has thrived and strives to provide a space for local artists to present their creations.
Art, Design, and High Fashion
Going much beyond art, Espacio 14 is a space dedicated to up and coming artists and residents within a radius of 14 km. A place where fashion and art converge, here you’ll be able to find one of a kind pieces made by artisanal and local artists.
At Espacio 14 you can come to enjoy temporary exhibitions of emerging artists from March to September, a place where you can find crafts and designs, specially selected for you. With exhibitions by Gabriel López, Pepa Caselles and Cristina Pedrós, there’s also a permanent exhibition by the owner and founder, Luis Puchades.
Espacio 14 is also a space dedicated to exclusive Haute Couture and Pret-a-Porter garments handmade by Luis Puchades with carefully crafted materials. Passionate about combining art and craftsmanship, Espacio 14 features work by experts who have been in the fashion industry and linked to the art sector for over 30 years.
There are five spaces – Espacio Uno, Dos, Tres, y Cuarto, as well as Espacio MudoMasa.
It’s worth pointing out that the space is also available to rent for events, photoshoots and film locations.
The studio also hosts courses, workshops and other projects. In the MudoMusa space, directed by Teresa Candela, yoga classes, holistic counselling and training courses are given here.
Meet the Artists
Luis Puchades
The founder of Espacio 14, Luis Puchades is a multidisciplinary artist, creative and artistic director, graphic and web designer, as well as a yoga teacher in the studio. Luis’ work seeks to interpret nature, representing all the seasons of the year. He uses extremely vibrant materials, emphasising the importance of keeping the earth alive.
Luis comes from an artistic background and has been surrounded by art and creativity from a young age. His family have a textiles business, and he also incorporates different textiles to create interesting textures in his work.
Teresa Candela
Teresa is a fashion designer, yoga teacher, and holistic therapist of the Iveshama philosophy. In the space, she organises female learning groups, where she provides counselling and workshops. Teresa directs the MudoMasa space, where she gives yoga classes for women.
Pepa Caselles
An up and coming artist and performer, Pepa’s unique method involves using a mop to paint with while signing at the same time. She sings couplets while she uses acrylic paint with a mop and water, with strokes that highlight the details and figures in each of her works. In the last stretch of her artistic career, Pepa is a lady at the age of 90, Pepa Caselles’ art is a bundle of deeply personal experiences and, above all, of a profound plastic reflection. The artist expresses herself as she is through colour, and through her singing.
Cristina Pedrós
A celebrated ceramist from Alicante, Cristina works tirelessly to perfect shapes, colours and textures from her homeland, Gata de Gorgos. She exhibits her creations thanks to the support of the artist and designer Luis Puchades, who has set up the cultural centre Espacio 14, of which he is co-founder, as an exhibition centre for these and other artistic pieces.
Her work represents natural elements, where earth and water come together to meet the wind, dry and continue its journey towards the fire.
Gabriel Lopez
Gabriel is a multidisciplinary artist, a professional tattooist and a graffiti artist. Creating art that is daring and rebellious, he began painting murals from a young age. His art on canvas is a unique combination of contemporary art from the beginning of the 20th century and modern street art with high notes of abstraction, a very peculiar composition full of colour and at the same time with great details of romanticism.
As you can see, Espacio 14 in Gata de Gorgos is much more than an art gallery. It’s a place where creative minds can come to meet and collaborate, with the goal of constantly filling the world with more beauty.
Where else would you find, for example, a 90-year-old lady who paints with a mop to create such deeply moving images, and where you can also find such variety of artwork, ceramics, graffiti, and yoga classes?
