Holy Week in Marbella is one of the best times to enjoy the options our city has to offer. And the best part is, it’s just around the corner. This year, the so-called Passion Week will take place between March 24, Palm Sunday, and March 31, Easter Sunday. During these dates, the city comes alive with a very special and charming atmosphere that you won’t want to miss.
We offer you a series of tips so you can spend unforgettable days in Marbella during this week, starting, of course, with the Holy Week processions.
Holy Week Processions in Marbella
Holy Week in Marbella is a tradition that combines religious fervor with popular and social traditions. From Palm Sunday to Resurrection Sunday, brotherhoods and fraternities such as La Amargura, La Pollinica, La Columna, El Cautivo, Santa Marta, Jesús Nazareno, Cristo del Amor, El Calvario, Santo Sepulcro, or La Soledad, among others, parade through the streets of the city.
So let’s start our tour of the Holy Week processions day by day:
Passion Saturday
It’s one of the newest traditions of Holy Week in Marbella, introduced just a few years ago. It’s a preview to Palm Sunday, and it’s the Brotherhood of La Amargura that parades through the streets of the so-called Barrio Alto. It’s a procession composed of a throne and 60 Nazarenes.
Palm Sunday
Marking the beginning of Holy Week in Marbella, it’s one of the most traditional days in the city. The streets are filled with an atmosphere, and no one wants to miss La Pollinica, which is how the image of Our Father Jesus of Mercy at His Triumphant Entry into Jerusalem is known.
Holy Monday
The day when Holy Week in Marbella returns to the so-called Barrio Alto. From 8:30 p.m., the thrones of the Christ Bound to the Column and the Most Holy Virgin White Virgin will tour the main streets of this area of Marbella.
And so on, each day has its own procession and its own special atmosphere that you can’t miss.
