Sonia Verdú Studio: Redefining Mediterranean Elegance with a ‘Wow Factor’ in Every Design

Based in Denia, Sonia Verdú Studio is where the magic of Mediterranean design transforms spaces into calm, luminous havens. Offering services that include full-scale interior design, home staging, and commercial projects, Sonia and her team help clients maximize the beauty and functionality of their spaces. As Sonia describes, the studio’s mission is “to create calm, luminous spaces that make you feel at ease.” From conceptualization to execution, the studio provides a fully personalized experience to bring clients’ visions to life, whether it’s a full renovation, styling a home for sale, or creating a show-stopping retail space. Sonia’s design expertise also extends to restaurant interiors and even luxury yachts, ensuring that every project reflects both elegance and functionality.

With an extensive background in both construction and design, Sonia’s journey into interior architecture was shaped by years of exposure to her family’s construction business. “My father has been in construction all his life,” she shared, recalling memories of blueprints and materials scattered throughout her home. “I was always drawn to it and knew I’d end up doing something related.” Her early experiences led her to pursue studies in architecture, and although she initially wanted to study interior architecture, the program wasn’t available in Valencia, so she chose technical architecture instead.

Undeterred, Sonia took her education further: “I started working with architects to learn as much as possible about construction, blueprints, and design.” When she was ready, she headed to Madrid weekly to train at the Universidad Complutense, where she could focus on her true passion, interior design. “Finally, I was able to open my studio in Denia, where I can fully dedicate myself to what I love.”

Creating Tranquil and Inviting Spaces

Sonia’s studio is known for creating calm, luminous interiors that blend tradition with a forward-looking aesthetic. Her process is deeply client-centered, starting with listening to clients’ wishes to capture the feelings they want in their space. “When clients come to me, I start by listening to how they want to feel in their space,” she explains. “I organize their ideas and then create a mood board to capture the feeling they envision.”

Listening is key, as Sonia’s goal is to shape spaces that align with her clients’ desires. Even for clients who are unsure of their vision, she begins with a conversation. “If they don’t know exactly what they want, I listen to understand how they want to feel,” Sonia adds. Through these discussions, she can translate emotions into colors, materials, and layouts that resonate on a personal level.

Bringing in the “Wow” Factor

One of Sonia’s distinctive touches is the “wow factor,” a surprising element that elevates her designs beyond her clients’ initial vision. “I love giving homes a ‘wow’ effect, something that my clients might not have thought of,” she says. By adding unexpected details and a touch of boldness, Sonia keeps her designs fresh while maintaining her signature relaxed Mediterranean style.

The Power of Natural Light and Materials

Central to Sonia’s work is the use of natural light and sustainable materials, elements she considers essential for creating comfortable and beautiful spaces. “Natural light is essential. For me, it’s the foundation of every project,” Sonia notes, emphasizing the importance of light in creating welcoming spaces. “If a home lacks light or feels dark, it’s hard for people to feel comfortable in it. For me, it impacts everything – emotionally, creatively, and even in terms of relaxation.”

For Sonia, light and natural materials are more than just aesthetic choices; they are fundamental elements that shape how a person experiences a space. “I wouldn’t know how to create without natural light. If I worked in a dark place, I couldn’t complete a project,” she states, highlighting how these elements contribute to her creative flow.

Tradition Meets Modernity in Every Project

Sonia’s recent projects illustrate her commitment to blending traditional materials with modern design principles. A prime example is a gourmet oil store near Jávea, a project that perfectly embodies her vision of merging the past and present. “It’s one of my favorite projects, where we’ve blended tradition and modernity using timeless materials,” she shares. The store’s structure feels like a traditional villa while incorporating sleek, modern elements. “The base concept is rooted in tradition, as the store is in a historic area. But the materials and design are adapted to today’s standards,” Sonia explains.

Among her recent projects, Sonia is currently working on a gourmet oil store near Jávea that perfectly embodies her approach of blending traditional charm with contemporary design. In this project, Sonia is taking on everything from the packaging to the branding and even the design of the store itself. “It’s one of my favorite projects, where we’ve blended tradition and modernity using timeless materials,” she says. The store’s structure feels like a classic villa, yet incorporates sleek, modern elements that make it uniquely memorable.
